‘Renew my mind, guard my heart, and hold me fast.’
My Child,
I see you in this dry place. I know the quiet stretches where the world is loud but my voice feels silent, where you wonder if you have drifted too far out of my reach. You feel the heavy weight of distance and the exhaustion of trying to find your way back. But hear this truth: my grip on you does not depend on your strength to hold on. Even when you are faithless, I remain faithful, for I cannot deny who I am (2 Timothy 2:13).
Do not trust the shadow that tells you I have abandoned you. The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; I will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged (Deuteronomy 31:8). You may not feel the warmth of the fire right now, but the embers are still burning. A bruised reed I will not break, and a smoldering wick I will not snuff out (Isaiah 42:3).
You are exhausted from striving, from trying to manufacture a feeling of closeness or fix what you think is broken. Stop. Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest (Matthew 11:28). You do not need to perform, to strive, or to earn your way back into my gaze. My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).
When looking inward becomes too painful and the doubts multiply, look outward at the world I have built and sustain. Look at the steadfastness of the trees, the quiet return of the dawn, the rain that waters the earth. Ask the animals, and they will teach you, or the birds in the sky, and they will tell you; speak to the earth, and it will teach you (Job 12:7-8). The same hands that faithfully command the morning and tend the vastness of creation are the hands holding your life together right now. My compassions for you never fail; they are new every single morning (Lamentations 3:22-23).
Do not let the noise convince you that you are lost to me. I have summoned you by name; you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned (Isaiah 43:1-2).
You have not fallen out of my reach. There is no height, no depth, no darkness, and no dry season that can separate you from my love (Romans 8:39). Breathe. Be still, and know that I am God (Psalm 46:10). Let me be your sufficiency today. Rest your weary heart. I am your rock, your fortress, and your deliverer (Psalm 18:2).
Welcome home.
Lord, You are my strength; sustain me in this dry place.
When the noise is loud and the distance feels vast, be my true sufficiency.
I stop striving today. I rest in Your unfailing word.
Renew my mind, guard my heart, and hold me fast.
I anchor my soul to Your steady promises today. Until the rain falls and the light returns, I will trust in Your unyielding love.
Thy will be done.
Amen.
